Kat awoke to the sun shining in her eyes. She rubbed them with her hands, still dazed from sleep. Looking around her, Kat became confused. Why was she sleeping in the library?
She felt soothing tighten around her waist and looked down. Nekomura slept with his head on her lap and his arms around her. Carefully, Kat placed a hand on his black hair and caressed it. The feel of soft locks beneath her hand told her that she wasn’t dreaming. He was really there. The events of the day before came rushing back to her and Kat felt her chest tighten with anger and sadness.

‘Ahum,” someone cleared their throat and Kat looked up, started. In a chair clo9se to the door was Ed. He sat with his arms crossed as he looked down at her. “Good morning,” he said with an expressionless face.

“Morning,” Kat said cautiously. She had remembered how she had acted the day before and didn’t want to antagonize her cousin any farther.

“I think we should talk before I take you and your friend to see Grandfather.” Ed leaned back in his chair, but never took his eyes from her. “I understand why you were upset and I don’t blame you. What I want to know about is him,” Ed pointed at Nekomura who still slept on Kat’s lap. She could now see the irritation he must have felt at seeing any guy that close to her. Kat couldn’t help but smile at his overprotectiveness.

“Like I said before, we became friends in the month before moving here.”

“Is that all?” Ed pressed. Kat raised an eyebrow.

“Yes,” she replied, then let out a squeak as Nekomura’s arms tightened even more around her and his face drew itself closer to her torso. She looked down and saw a yellow-green eye looking up at her. he was awake and most likely had been for some time. Ed, however, couldn’t see that and got to his feet in a hurry when she squeaked.

“What did he do?” Ed’s face was a mixture of worry and anger. He advanced toward them, reaching for the back of Nekomura’s shirt.

“No!” Kat shouted as she intercepted his hand. Without thinking she pinched him between his thumb and forefinger. He yelped in pain and fell to the ground next to her when she twisted his arm. Blinking she let go. “Ed, I’m sorry,” she said as the door opened. Kat looked up.

A man who looked to be around the same height and age of Ed came in. he was slightly tanned with dark hair that fell to his shoulders. Bright green eyes shone like emeralds in the sunlight. “Is everything alright?” he asked in a surprisingly musical voice.

“Yes,” Ed said as he sat up and rubbed his abused arm. “I thought I asked you to wait outside, Prince Torasuke.” Kat blinked and looked back at the other man. Sure enough, on the top of his head was a pair of small round ear the color of his hair. She could make out some darker stripes if she looked closely.

Instinctively, Kat pulled Nekomura closer to her. Seeming to sense that she was scared he sat up so that she could hide herself in his arms. Ed saw him move and stared at them.

“How long have you been awake?” he asked the demon boy.

“Long enough,” Nekomura replied. “I understand that you don’t like me very much.”

“Don’t take it personally,” Ed said as he stood up. “I don’t like any guy that gets close to Kitty Kat.”

“Should they be getting up so we can all go see your grandfather?” Torasuke interrupted. He seemed nervous as he looked down at Kat. He hadn’t forgotten the threat she had made to his father. Just from what he had heard since his arrival had convinced him that she was not what she seemed. He didn’t want to believe that the frail looking that used his father’s personal aid as a shield was dangerous, but he wasn’t taking his chances.

“You’re right,” Ed said with slight smile on his face. “Come on you two, it’s time for your scolding.” Ed walked over to Torasuke and two waited.

Nekomura stood up first and helped Kat to her feet. Once up, Kat began straightening Nekomura’s clothes while he tried to set her hair to order. After a time they switched their object of straightening. The two princes stared in amazement. Torasuke leaned toward Ed.

“Are you sure they’ve only known each other for a month?” he whispered. Ed shrugged as he watched.

“Actually they’ve known each other for two months but were separated after the first. Though, I do see your point.” After another few minutes of each other look presentable, Kat and Nekomura turned to the princes.

“Shall we,” Kat said as she motioned to the door. Ed nodded and turned, Torasuke close behind. With Kat and Nekomura bringing up the rear, the four of them left the quiet, little library.
